Daniel E. Gomez

Daniel Gomez, Partner, Marzulla Law Firm

Daniel Gomez is a partner at Marzulla Law. His legal career has focused on complex civil litigation in federal court. He has put his degree in economics to good use in handling cases involving monetary claims, bankruptcy and insurance claims, and cases involving substantial sums for large industrial clients. As an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law he has taught courses in federal Indian law and the Federal Rules of Evidence.

Handling the complexities of litigation and turning those complexities into a coherent story is what he considers one of his strengths and forms his interest in expanding the practice of holding the federal government accountable when it is responsible for financial and legal harms.

Before joining Marzulla Law, Daniel worked on the legal team in a breach of trust case in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims by representing a tribal nation in Oklahoma. The tribe’s reservation was the site of large-scale lead and zinc mining under the supervision of the federal government and was at one time the largest Superfund site in the country. The case involved hundreds of individual claimants, over 800,000 documents produced by the government from various archives, dozens of expert witnesses, hours of negotiations, and ultimately, a $200 million settlement.

He also looks forward to working with the younger members of the Marzulla legal team. Over the years, he learned from some outstanding attorneys, and his goal is to support young attorneys as they grow and develop into effective lawyers.

Daniel believes it is important to give back to the community and the legal profession. His advice to other lawyers has been to identify a need with personal importance to themselves and to use their particular skill sets to help.

Outside of the office, he unwinds and recharges through baseball. Some years ago, he joined a group of sandlot baseball players, where he participates in a low-stakes competition where camaraderie amongst teammates and opponents is fundamental. Their games bring together friends and families and has provided an opportunity to spend time outdoors with his kids. As Daniel puts it, nothing can be more fun than a kid cheering (or sometimes jeering) their parents as they try desperately to throw strikes.
