What do you particularly enjoy about working at Marzulla Law?

Marzulla law is a small team of incredibly intelligent individuals, and it is beyond inspiring to see them take on cases collaboratively and passionately. As a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Colorado Boulder and considering my options for post graduate plans I always knew I wanted to work in the Environmental Justice space, the legal field being the avenue for this work was a relatively new decision for me. Interning here at Marzulla Law, I have been learning at a rate that cannot compare to the classroom setting and every day offers something new.

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

In high school I was the president of our “Environmental Club” and through this role I had the opportunity to engage with local leaders in my city about changes we, as young constituents, desired. Standing up in front of a room full of city personnel explaining and defending why our storm drains needed an additional catchment system was terrifying but beyond pivotal for me.

In college, I started taking philosophy classes, this led to synthesizing my public speaking skills from environmental advocacy with philosophical debate via our “woman in philosophy” club. Those skills along with a desire to make impactful and long-lasting change for the environment have inspired me to pursue a career in law.

Did any of your college coursework stand out? What appealed to you the most?

I took an Environmental Justice course under Professor Mindi DePaola at the University of Colorado Boulder, which was also very influential in connecting environmental work with the legal field. We looked at some landmark EJ cases in the United States and then analyzed some current applicable policy. As someone who spends all of my free time in the outdoors I felt as though this was the perfect avenue for me to pursue after taking this class.

How do you like to relax?

I spend almost all my free time outdoors. I love hiking and skiing in the White Mountains when I am home on the east coast, or in the Rocky Mountains when I am at school in Colorado. However, lately in DC I have been exploring new coffee shops, trying out different restaurants, and getting to know this incredibly walkable and vibrant city.
